Icebergs

(Harmony James – J Albert & Sons)

Today commemorates a day that never came
I’ll find a place to be alone right through all thats going on
Imagining the things that might have been
I take you with me everywhere I am
You never really left

A fixed gear racer leans against the corner store
In the naive careless haste of a kid with time to waste
A pocket full of small change is burning to be spent
A spray of freckles, a sheen of sweat
That’s all it took and I was off again

Today commemorates a day that never came
I’ll find a place to be alone right through all that’s going on
Imagining the things that might have been
I take you with me everywhere I am
You would’ve been ten

Somebody asked me how I’d spend the long weekend
Said I’d go hiking in the hills I try to do it every spring
She laughed and said well ain’t you fancy free
Go ahead you lucky thing, with no idea what’s driving me

We live like icebergs, show what we’re willing to
You can sail by never even knowing what we’re going through

Commemorating days that never came
I’ll find a place to be alone right through all that’s going on
Imagining the things that might have been
I take you with me everywhere I am
You should here with me

I found another grey among the auburn shine
You’d probably wind up mortified and walk ten further lengths behind
I’d tease and claim to blame each one on you
I’d try to take your angst in stride
Growing up is no easy ride

We live like icebergs, show what we’re willing to
You can sail by never even knowing what we’re going through

Commemorate a day that never came
I’ll find a place to be alone right through all that’s going on
Imagining the things that might have been
I take you with me everywhere I am
You could be seventeen
